Q – What are the advantages of Roomsurfer?
A – Roomsurfer allows you to enjoy traveling in a social way. Whenever you visit a new city, you are a stranger in a strange place. But now Roomsurfer gives you the opportunity to get in contact with someone who can make you feel at home within minutes. Staying with a Roomsurfer host means you will enter into a place where your favourite things are already there: a poster of a band you also love, the same movies on the shelves or the book you are reading at home on their night table will let you know that you just met someone you want to keep around.
Q – Who can be a host at Roomsurfer?
A – Anyone who has a spare bed or couch at their place and is willing to welcome a guest with a smile and has cool ideas for activities in the city. We need you to be 18+ too :)
Q – Do I have to pay to be a host?
A – No. You sign up on Roomsurfer for free and you set up your pictures, pricing and availability for zero cost.
Q – How do I sign up for Roomsurfer?
A – At the moment you can sign up for Roomsurfer as a host using your Facebook Account. This allows us to find your perfect match when looking for accomodation in the city of your choice. Also it makes the sign up process really fast and means there is no problem if you forget your password :)
Q – How expensive is it to book accommodation with Roomsurfer?
A – We ask our hosts to adapt their pricing to the conditions of their offer. Our recommended prices are around 10€ a night for a sofa or shared room and around 25€ for a single bedroom. We will add a service fee to it so we can keep providing an amazing service to hosts and guests. But in any case, the maximum price for a Roomsurfer booking will be around 30€ per night. And that not only secures you a night’s stay, it also pays for a matching host willing to give you the best tips that fit into your trip plans. We call it the Best Deal Ever. Amen.
Q – When is Roomsurfer going to be open to everyone?
A – First of all our priority is to gather a very nice base of hosts who test our project and let us learn more about their needs. That way we can improve our service and offer hosts the safety and satisfaction they deserve. Once our hosts are happy, it is time for you to meet them and start enjoying the Roomsurfer magic. Leave us your contact email and we will make sure you are notified when we go live. If you wish to make it happen as soon as possible, the best way is to sign up as a host and invite your friends to follow your example!
Q – How does the Roomsurfer matching magic work?
A – We ask you to connect your Facebook account so we can use the open graph to find you the perfect match. On Facebook you already specified many personal tastes and that saves you a lot of time when using Roomsurfer and in the future, saves you some money too :) It might sound scary, but it is actually quite practical and safe: we don’t directly see your personal information, our algorithm simply processes the content, whose final result you see on your Roomsurfer profile. Remember that the more comprehensive your tastes are reflected on your profile, the better match we can provide you with!

A – We are extremely social and want to keep you updated on what our next moves are. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Youtube, Instagram, EyeEm and of course read about us on our Blog.

Q – Is Roomsurfer an international service?
A – Roomsurfer is based in Berlin. Our plan is to focus on Europe and see how our idea spreads before we conquer the world :) Yet over time it is our intention to be present in as many cities as possible. So if our project catches your attention and you get as excited as we are with it, let us know what can we do to help you spread the word in your local area.
